About Divorce/Separation
Parenting Issues
Each State government has a strong interest and need for confidence that children will be physically, emotionally, and financially be cared for, especially during and after a divorce/separation. Due to this, most States requires parents to:
- Work through and submit a detailed plan for parenting when filing for divorce/custody. Examples are available on the Oregon Justice Department Family Law website.
- Attend a Parent Education Class (focused on understanding and helping children through divorce). Information on classes available through OJD Family Law website or your Local Family Court Services.
- Establish child support based on accurate information of parents relative incomes and parenting responsibility. More info for Oregon or Washington.
